Applied Building Technology Group, offers a wall calculator as a tool to help coordinate energy code thermal insulation compliance and building code water vapor control compliance for a proposed wall assembly on a commercial or residential building.

Performs two design checks for a user-inputted wall assembly:

1. Calculates the assembly U-factor and compares it to the code minimum thermal performance criteria (maximum U-factors) in the 2012, 2015, 2018, and 2021 versions of the IECC, as well as the 2016, 2019, and 2022 versions of ASHRAE 90.1, which are climate dependant.

2. Conducts a water vapor control check to evaluate whether the planned wall assembly meets the minimum building code requirements for various interior vapor retarder alternatives, which vary depending on climate and other factors.
